Bruce Willis: No Die Hard Oprah Fan

BwBruce Willis is getting his digs into Oprah Winfrey concerning the James Frey fallout.

Page Six reports that Willis has said:

"Look at what happened to James Frey in the last two weeks," Willis rants to iFMagazine. "That's a great book and so is the follow-up book ["My Friend Leonard"]. And just because his publisher chose to say that these were memoirs, it took it out of being a work of fiction, a great work of fiction and very well-written, to this guy having to go be sucker-punched on 'Oprah' by one of the most powerful women in television just to grind her own ax about it."

Hey, Oprah," Willis continues. "You had President Clinton on your show, and if this [bleep] didn't lie about a couple of things, I'm going to set myself on fire right now. James Frey is a writer, OK? He can write whatever he wants. It's fiction, and it's just hard, it's just shameful how he was treated in some of these things."

Willis, a huge fan of Frey and his book A Million Little Pieces, has obviously had it with Oprah and her holier-than-everybody else attitude.

Girl needs to step off a little.

Totally agree. No one even questioned Running With Scissors because, even though it was based on Burroughs' life, it was obvious that some narrator's license was used. Kinda like when I say I'm a Ninja trained Neurosurgeon with a PhD in Astrophysics. When the reality is that I was trained as a *Samurai*.

Good job, Bruce! I am so glad it is coming from you. Finally a celebrity who says out loud what a lot have been thinking for a long time. I wish more famous people were strong enough to just say they disagree with her when they do. Too much power can do you some harm, especially when it is unjustified. In my opinion, her status is becoming a bit dangerous. Let the people alone and let them think on their own!

I agree with Bruce.
I watched the episode with James on the Oprah show and I think she was just out to make herself look right. I felt terrible for James. I read his book in 3 days, absolutely could not put it down. He is a terrific writer, and I hope he continues to write wonderful books

Bruce Willis obviously didn't do his homework.

Willis said, "James Frey is a writer, OK? He can write whatever he wants. It's fiction ..."

First, I don't think Oprah set out to skewer Frey. He had an equal chance to look good, to redeem himself. It was his reaction, not Oprah's actions, that made him look so bad. I honestly think she expected him to defend himself.

I like Bruce Willis as an actor, but he needs to get a grip. Frey's book was NOT categorized as fiction. If it had been NONE of this controversy would have occurred.

Before the Oprah bashing, the book was listed as NONFICTION: MEMOIR in many bookstores and as NONFICTION:SELF HELP in a vast majority of bookstores.

Willis, that's not fiction and that's why many people are upset. NONFICTION: SELF HELP implies that the events were real and can possibly help other addicted individuals. That's an important distinction.

So what's with the sudden cheerleading? Hmmm? Is this just a publicity stunt for you, spindoctoring Frey's moment on Oprah to get the movie made so you can play Leonard?

I absolutley agree with Bruce. James Frey is truly a great writer. Both his books are amazing. I highly recommend them to everyone. Oprah was horrible to him. She kept saying she brought him on her show because she felt ashamed for supporting his books. She should feel ashamed for how she treated him not for his books, which are very well-written books.

The book was considered mediocre pulp when Frey tried to push it as a novel, but lying and saying it was a true story gave it some "oooh"- awe inspiring wow-factor that allowed people to overlook his lack of actual talent.
So he claimed it was a memoir. He's a scumbag.
And Bruce definitely hasn't paid attention to the actual facts of the case, because he is blaming everyone BUT Frey.

I'm glad that Mr. Willis got ticked-off enough to say what he was really thinking about a few things. I'm both a Willis and Oprah fan, and I understand his anger. Did she attack Clinton that way for lying to everyone in his so-called 'memoirs' that quickly made it to the $1 bin? Didn't even hear her say "Tom, get your shoes off my couch!"
No, we love Bruce Willis for what he is: strong, opinionated, extremely talented and well... cute!
P.S.-- Demi, you're one dumb lady to leave that gorgeous man! One would think by your choice of new hubby, you're trying to keep yourself young by regular 'youth infusions'... it ain't workin', babe!

Bruce should go live in a "Red State" and marry a child bride.

Frey was asked before hand by Oprah's peeps if everything was true, and he said "yes." He was asked on the show if everything was true and he said "yes." I think he could have fessed up and he still would have greatly profited by it.

Frey --mouth breathing liar with his mommy on Larry King. I didn't buy the book because junkie stories are old and boring and people should not profit from their weak-ass stupidity.
